Coach U.R. Quick
Track and Cross Country Coach
Athletics Department
State University
Statesville, Anystate
Dear Coach Quick:
I will be a senior at Alexander Carlyle High Schoool this fall. I have run track and cross country for the past three years. During my freshman and sophmore years I ran track and cross country, and played soccer at County High School in Wyoming. My coach, Henry Harrison, believes in relatively low-mileage training for high school runners, and I look forward to substantial improvement in my performance throughout college.
I believe I could be a real asset to the athletic program at State University. I would be interested in learning of opportunities for athletic scholarship assistance. I am aware of the tremendous academic and athletic reputation of State U. My parents both graduated from your arch rival, State Tech in 1973; my sister will be a junior at State Tech this fall.
I have enclosed a brief resume outlining my athletic accomplishments. I would appreciate it if you would provide me with information about your track and cross country programs. Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Jack O. Rollins

Dear Coach Quick:
Thank you for meeting with me yesterday and going over the academic and athletic programs at State U. My father and I were very impressed with the campus, the athletic facilities and you as a coach. As you requested, I have enclosed a copy of my cross country schedule for this fall. As you can see, there are a few free weekendds. I will speak with my coach, Henry Harrison, to see whether I should wait until after the season to make campus visits. I really want to visit State U. during the fall and will stay in touch.
Although you seemed familiar with my background, I have enclsoed a brief resume outlining my academic and athletic accomplishments to date.
Thank you again, Coach Quick, for the opportunity to meet with you and see the State U. campus.
Sincerely,
Jack O. Rollins

Attached to this letter you will find a brief resume which i am sending to you by way of introduction. Presently, I am senior (position) at (name of school) and am applying to your school for the fall of 1999. Realizing that you will be extremely busy this spring, it is my hope that you can spare someone to come see me play near the start of our season. I invite you to contact my coach, (name and phone number of coach) or call the school at (phone number of school). It will be about six weeks until a (name of sport) schedule is finalized and published. In the meantime (name of coach) remains ready to answer any questions you may have.
As you may know, last spring I was selected to the (name of league) All-Star team as a (position). This past summer I was selected to play in the (name of game) in Boston. Last year I was selected Captain of the team even though I was just a Junior because of my leadership qualities and because I have always made a commitment to myself and my teams to give 100% for the entire game. The coaches and players know that I am often a positive instructional influence on my younger teammates. I work hard all the time, I never let down, I never get rattled and I am always positive. My family could not afford to send me away to a high-profile sports-oriented school like (name of school) or (name of another school) but I have been fortunate to face very good opponents and get some great coaching from the staff here.
I love the game and look forward to participating as a member of your team. I know that I have a lot to learn about playing college (name of sport) but I also think you will be pleasantly suprised at what I have to offer both on and off the field.
Best of luck to you and your team for the upcoming season. Hope to see someoene from your school at one of my games in the near future. Thanks for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
