Amvets National Service Foundation
National Scholarships, AMVETS National Headquarters, 4647 Forbes Boulevard, Lanham, Maryland 20706. Provides opportunities in higher education for the sons and daughters of American veterans. There are three different types of these scholarships: FOUR YEAR SCHOLARSHIPS for graduating high school students entering a four year course of study; JUNIOR COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS for graduating high school students entering a two year course of study; and CONTINUATION SCHOLARSHIPS for students completing a two year course of study and wishing to continue the pursuit of a four year academic degree. VALUE: Each of the three types of scholarships provides a $1000 grant annually – a total of $4000 for the four year award, $2000 for the junior college award, and $2000 for the continuation award. ELIGIBILITY: All three types of awards: Must be son or daughter of an American veteran and a citizen of the United States, who demonstrates both academic achievement and financial need. The candidates for the four year and junior college scholarships must be high school graduates. For the continuation scholarship, the candidate must have completed two years at an accredited junior/community college or university. Air Force ROTC
Students are required to enlist in the Air Force Reserve, complete a four-week summer training period at an Air Force Base, and upon graduation, accept a commission as an Air Force officer and serve four years active duty. High school scholastic achievements also considered and scholarships intended primarily for students pursuing engineering and scientific degrees. The scholarship pays full tuition, some fees and expenses, and reimbursement for required textbooks at colleges and universities affiliated with the ROTC program. There is a $100 (tax-free) allowance paid during the school year. Room and board are not paid by the ROTC program. The award is based on individual merit, not on financial need. Scholarship application forms will be available to high school juniors in their guidance counselor offices in May. Deadline for filing is December 15 of the student's senior year.
NROTC Navy-Marine Scholarship Program

Financial Aid for up to four years in college. The Navy pays tuition and educational fees, books, uniforms, and $100 per month subsistence. Upon completing bachelors degree and summer training periods, students are commissioned as officers in the Navy or Marine reserves.
AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIPS
American Legion – Department of Massachusetts Scholarship Fund
Five $1000 and ten $500 scholarships may be awarded each year. Children of paid-up members of an American Legion Post located within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, who are between the ages of 17 and 22, who will e entering college as an incoming freshman are eligible. Deadline is April 1. Hampden County residents should contact Post Adjuant at the American Legion Post their parent belongs to, for applications and information.
Statement of Conditions of This Scholarship:
1. This scholarship shall be designated "The Scholarship Fund of the Department of Massachusetts, Inc., The American Legion."
2. The Department of Massachusetts, The American Legion, may grant five $1000, and ten $500 scholarships to be used towards the expenses of education of the son or daughter, not under 17 or over 22 years of age, whos father or mother is a current member in good standing of an American Legion Post within the Department of Massachusetts, or was a member in good standing at time of death.
3. Applications shall be filed on or before April 1 with the Dept. Adjutant, The American Legion, 546-2 State House, Boston, MA 02133.
4. The Scholarship shall be for the next school year only and limited to incoming freshmen. The scholarship committee will make it's selection before June 1
5. Scholarship payments shall be made directly to the recipient. Payments shall be made at the beginning of each semester and may be withheld if the student fails to remain in good standing. In event of termination during school year, payment must be returns to MA Dept.
6. The $1000 scholarships shall be known as: A) Frank R. Kelly Scholarship; B) Sam Murphy Scholarship; C) H.P. Redden Scholarship; D) Mayer/Murphy Scholarship; E) Joseph H. Ellinwood (Nursing Only)
American Legion – Hampden County Council
Past County Commanders Scholarship Fund:
The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students in furthering their education. One $500 may be awarded annually, with proviso that additional scholarship awards will be made in amounts of not less than $250 depending on availability of funds. To be considered, students must be a child or grandchild of a paid-up member of any American Legion Post, located within Hampden County, State of Massachusetts, provided said post is a current paid-up affiliate of Hampden County Council of American Legion Posts. Child includes adopted children and other persons under legal guardianship of a paid-up Legionnaire as defined in the sentence above. Eligibility is also extended to children of deceased Legionnaires who were paid-up members of Posts referred to above, at time of death. Students must be entering college as a first-year-freshman to be eligible. Deadline is April 15. Any high school senior may apply, though preference is given to son or daughter, niece or nephew or other relative of member of Post #277. Five Scholarships of $100 each to be awarded. King, Martin Luther Jr. Memorial Scholarship
This award is offered by Wesley United Methodist Church, Springfield. Applicants must be an active member of a local church and enrolled in an undergraduate course of study in a school accredited by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church or other appropriate state and national accrediting bodies. At least one award of $250 to be given. These awards range from $100 to full tuition and are automatically renewed each year for four years for students who maintain at least a B average. Bay Path College

The College participates in all the federal and state programs listed in the opening pages of this booklet. Bay path also offers Presidential, Trustee, Alumnae and Corporate scholarships to recognize academic success in high school. The College awards institutional grants and work study opportunities to deserving women regardless of need. The Financial Aid Form must be processed ant the applicant must be accepted to the College before she can be reviewed for assistance. The College also requires a signed copy of the 1040s for parents and students. The FAF should be submitted early to insure maximum funding as the College is on "rolling financial aid" policy, and awards are made on a first-come, first-serve basis. Most scholarships are renewable for students who maintain Dean's List standing.

In addition, the College wards a significant amount of aid in the form of need-based grants and tuition waivers, and anticipates making considerably more institutional funds available to provide more job opportunities for needy students. It also participates in a variety of loan programs, including Stafford, Perkins, PLYUS and Mass. No-Interest Loans. For the ease of student application, receipt of funds, and repayment, along with administrative efficiency, the College may in the near future limit its loan program participation to Federal Stafford or Direct Loans, supplemented by the Federal PLUS Loan Program and it's own emergency loan program. B.P.O. Elks, Lodge #61 * Loans are available to a limited number of high school seniors. Eight state winners selected from each district to receive $1,000 each. Easthampton – Citizens' Scholarship Foundation
For residents of Easthampton attending area secondary schools or any resident who has lived in Easthampton for the past five years. Grants range in value from $100 to $500. East Longmeadow Garden Club
One scholarship of $500 will be offered to an East Longmeadow resident who is planning to further his or her education in the field of Horticulture, Agriculture, Forestry, Conservation or Plant Environmental Sciences or related fields. A $1000 scholarship is offered to students in the greater Springfield area who are hearing-impaired or who intend to pursue a field of study pertaining to the hearing-impaired. Applicants must either be high school seniors, an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited institution of higher learning, or a student enrolled in a vocational training program established by federal mandate for the hearing impaired. Rotary Club of Springfield, Educational Scholarships
These scholarships are for students who will be studying abroad and acting as ambassadors of "good will" for the Rotary Club. The scholarships will cover all travel, educational, and living expenses for the academic year. Barr, Walter S. Scholarship
These awards for undergraduate education are made annually by the Scholarship Committee to residents of the communities who are members of the senior classes of the secondary schools of Agawam, Chicopee, East Longmeadow, Longmeadow, Ludlow, Springfield, West Springfield, and Wilbraham. The competition is decided on the basis of school records, college entrance examinations, general attainments and financial need. Awards will be continued through the four-year course if the student's record, need and behavior justify such continuance.
